The Gelastomer technology was developed to provide engineers and designers with a low-friction, lubricous elastomer alternative for use across the medical device industry. Gelastomers themselves represent a unique family of hydratable, thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) characterized by excellent durability, elasticity, wear resistance, biostability and biocompatibility. They provide high levels of intrinsic surface lubricity at a range of material durometers while remaining PFAS and fluoropolymer-free. As TPEs, they are inherently drop-in compatible with all standard thermal and solvent assisted processing, molding, and extrusion technologies. Relying only on physical crosslinking, these composite TPEs can be easily remelted, reprocessed, and recycled.
